If you have ever driven through or flown in to Orange County, California, you cannot help but notice two massive hangars at Tustin Air Base. You can see them from miles away. These enormous wooden structures are 17 stories tall, a hundred meters wide and more than two city blocks long. The base and buildings were built during WWII to house blimps used in the war effort and remained operational for nearly 60 years but despite best efforts, sometimes things just do not go as planned. There still no reports on the cause but recently one of the huge iconic structures burned to the ground. The good news, there were no reports of injury but the bad news is schools and businesses nearby had to be closed for several days due to the smoke and ash from the fire.
