The Kentucky Derby is the most famous thoroughbred horse race event in the world. Participation requires thousands of hours of training and preparation, millions of dollars of investment and just the right conditions but even with all of that, sometimes things just do not go as planned. There are 20 positions available for the derby but this year there were only 3 odds on favorite horses to win the race. Due to some unusual circumstances, one of the original horses was scratched from the race and an alternate, “Rich Strike”…with 80:1 odds was inserted as a substitute.
