Sometimes Things Just Don’t Go As Planned : Edition 19

Despite utilizing some of the world’s most advanced technology, simple mistakes can still happen with ocean going vessels. One of the biggest stories in the news this week is about an enormous cargo ship has run aground in the Suez Canal in Egypt and is blocking one of the world’s heaviest trafficked waterway. A satellite image taken above the Red Sea have revealed the true extent of the traffic jam building up behind the cargo ship. Some 250 vessels are now backed up at either end of the narrow waterway, waiting for the stricken Ever Given – a container ship as long as the Empire State Building is tall – to be moved so they can pass.
